Travertine is a unique stone in many ways. That’s because it’s a limestone ‘grown’ from calcium carbonate deposited by mineral springs or mineral rich ground water. It’s formed when the calcium carbonate dissolved in water rapidly precipitates, often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave, just picture the stalagmites and stalactities found in caves.

Description

Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan and cream-coloured varieties. At Stone Source we get most of our Travertine from Turkey in colours that range from the creamy lightness of baja white to a sedate dark silt gray. Usually the lightest of the stones, Travertine can also display bright, vibrant swirls of copper, amber or burnt orange.

Installation Tip

Travertine is one of the softer stones before placed at sealed making it perfect for indoor use. Travertine is also very durable once installed, and will outlast your house if cared for properly.
